Here is how to enable automatic idle status in zendesk chat

  1. First in your dashboard, click on "Settings" in the left sidebar
  2. Then click on "Routing" option in the expanded Settings menu
  3. Make sure to select the "Assigned" chat routing option as the automatic idle status is only available with this option
  4. The "Reassignment" setting must be enable
  5. Find the "Automatic idle" section
  6. Then click the "On" toggle button to enable Automatic idle
  7. Enter a value in the "Chats Reassigned" field 
  8. Select the status you want next to the "Idle Status"
  9. Finally click on "Save changes" button at the bottom of the form
