Here is how to reply in a thread and add it to the main conversation in slack

First click on the channel name in the sidebar under the Channels section
Then click on the message where you want to send a reply
Next click on the "Reply to thread" icon in the message toolbar
Then type your reply in the thread panel's text input field
Next click on the "Also send to # proj-01" checkbox below the reply field
Finally click on the send button to submit your threaded reply
